A Sustainable & Profitable Solution to Agriculture Water Resource Shortages
"This represents a huge opportunity to solve the water needs of our farmers while postively impacting our economy in the long term".
- Barry Norris, Technical Services Administrator
Oregon Water Resource Department
Dwindling water resources have created a huge challenge for farmers around the world.
Using new 21st-century water resource technologies, IRZ Consulting has proposed implementing the first large-scale system for agricultural Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR) in the U.S. IRZ's proposed ASR system would transport 50,000 to 100,000 acre-feet of water from the Columbia River each winter when water levels are high; store it in underground aquifer recharge areas; then, release it in the summer for agricultural use. The system would use existing infrastructure to both transport the water both to and from the aquifers.
The result: a sustainable solution to Oregon's water resource shortage; maximized agricultural production; a boost to Oregon's economy; and, a case study for agricultural regions around the world on how to address farmers' water shortage challenges.
